His Excellency Most Rev. Mathews Mar Polycarpos was born as the son of Geevarghese and Kunjamma in 1955 at Puthoor in the Eparchy of Mavelikara. After his schooling he joined St. Aloysius Minor Seminary for priestly formation. After completing Philosophy and Theology from St. Thomas Apostolic Seminary, Vadavathoor, Kottayam, he was ordained priest on 18 December 1983. Then he pursuied Bachelor of Degree from Loyola College, Chennai, Master of Degree from Madurai Kamaraj University, Master of Degree in French literature, and Doctorate from MS University, Tirunelveli.
He has served as the Principal of Mar Ivanios College, Interview Board Member of Kerala Public Service Commission, Board of Studies Member of the French, Latin languages in Kerala University, and Academic Council Member of Kerala University. He serves as the vicar of around 35 parishes, chancellor and Catechism Director of the Archieparchy of Trivandrum, Director of the commission for preparing the catechetical texts in the Church, Professor of the St. Mary’s Malankara Seminary and the Vicar of the various parishes.
He was ordained Bishop on 15 July 2022 at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Pattom, Trivandrum and was appointed as the Auxiliary Bishop of the Major Archieparchy of Trivandrum on 5 May 2022 and . On 29 June 2025 he was installed as the Bishop of the Eparchy of Mavelikara.
