History of the School (1974–2024)

Infant Jesus Central School, Thuvayoor, stands today as a centre of quality education for the people of Kadambanadu. Over the past five decades, the school has grown steadily, offering meaningful educational opportunities and nurturing generations of students with knowledge, values, and vision. The foundation for the school was laid through the visionary initiative of Rev. Fr. P. T. George, who desired to establish a central educational institution for the children of the region. The school was formally inaugurated on 11 June 1974 by Archbishop Benedict Mar Gregorios near the Cross at Thuvayoor Junction, within the present premises of Jayan Memorial Hospital, with 32 students. Sr. Rachel of the Daughters of Mary Congregation served as the first Headmistress. After a year of dedicated service, she was succeeded by Sr. Grashia. From 1977 onwards, the administration of the school was entrusted to the devoted sisters of the Vincent de Paul Congregation, whose committed service greatly contributed to the development of the institution.

A major milestone came in 1982, when the school moved into its own building after functioning for several years in rented and temporary facilities. The new building was inaugurated on 7 June 1982 by Mr G. Narendra, the then Panchayat President, and on the same day the school received official recognition from the Government of Kerala for its First Standard. The LP School was formally inaugurated on 22 March 1984 by the then Minister for Education, Mr T. M. Jacob, and additional classes were gradually approved in the following years. The Silver Jubilee of the school was celebrated on 29 and 30 January 1999, with the participation of distinguished guests including Mr T. M. Jacob, Minister for Education, and His Excellency Joshua Mar Ignathios, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Thiruvananthapuram.

A new chapter began in 2009, when Rev. Fr. P. T. George officially entrusted the school to the Mavelikara Diocese. Earlier, in the 2008–2009 academic year, the school had introduced English-medium education under the CBSE syllabus, beginning the process of CBSE affiliation. Following inspection by CBSE officials and the granting of the Government NOC in 2015, the institution received CBSE affiliation in 2016 and became officially known as Infant Jesus Central School. The first batch of seven students appeared for the CBSE Class X Board Examination in 2017 at TKM Central School, Karikode, achieving a 100% pass result. Another important milestone was reached on 11 October 2017, when the foundation stone for a new school building was laid by His Grace Joshua Mar Ignathios, Bishop of the Diocese of Mavelikkara. This building stands today as a symbol of the school’s continued growth and commitment to excellence.

Over the years, several priests of the Diocese of Mavelikara have served as School Managers and guided the institution with dedication. With the CBSE affiliation, this role has evolved into the position of Director of the School. Among those who have served in this capacity are Fr. Kaleb, Fr. Geevarghese Vaidyan, Fr. Jain Thenguvilayil, Fr. Robert Palavila, Fr. Thomas Cherupushpam, Fr. Daniel Thekkedath and Fr. George Kottappuram.

The school also acknowledges with gratitude the invaluable service of the sisters of the Vincentian Congregation, including Rev. Sr. Stella Thomas, Rev. Sr. Molly Jose, Rev. Sr. Christina, Rev. Sr. Roselie, Rev. Sr. Sheeja, Rev. Sr. Maggie SLV, Rev. Sr. Teena, Rev. Sr. Geena and Rev. Sr. Jessy, whose dedication has significantly shaped the growth of the institution.

At present, Fr. Samuel Paickattethu serves as the Bursar of the school, while Sr. Sheeja SCV leads the institution as the Principal. With the continued guidance of the Diocese, the dedicated service of the sisters and staff, and the support of parents and well-wishers, Infant Jesus Central School continues to grow and flourish, striving to provide quality education and holistic formation for the generations to come.
